We have constructed a Canteen for a school around Angkor Wat
We did build (provided the funds to construct to be precise !) a new canteen for one of the rural area schools around Angkor Wat (Siem Reap). Maybe not most obvious from first read but this represents a major contribution in the plan of giving children a positive school experience, and motivating them thereby to continue their studies. Breakfast at school is one of the important tools that were developed over the years to bind children in poorer areas to school.
Now it is a world of difference when one can have that sheltered, and that means in Cambodia : not in the burning sun (and Northeren Europe now also knows what this means from last week’s experience !) or under heavy rain showers. We did find our way to a school, similarly sitiuated, over gravel roads, passed some time in the burning sun around the breakfast area, and could experience -by imagination- how it will be now, with the shelter. Now that little dream has come true as you can experience from the school’s testimony under the below link, of which one wouldn’t wish to miss the end ! :
It feels for us that we achieved with your and our funding, as much as for the dormitories that we sponsored to build in Namibia, as the quote from the nice song :
Ik heb een steen verlegd in een rivier op aarde
Nu weet ik dat ik nooit zal zijn vergeten
Ik leverde ‘t bewijs van mijn bestaan
Omdat, door het verleggen van die eene steen
De stroom nooit meer dezelfde weg zal gaan
Or in the words of the people from Shinta Mani (our local support organization) :
Your support has created a wonderful space where children can enjoy their breakfast in comfort.
Once again, thank you for making this new canteen building possible and for contributing to the education sector in such a meaningful way.
